PHILIP VENTER

Philip has a long and diverse carrer in mining that spans the entire spectrum, from electrical technician to mine manager. He has worked for mining companies such as Impala Platinum and Sasol Mining. Before establishing Phangwa Mining he was operations manager at mining equipment supplier Voest Alpine Mining and Tunnelling.

During his tenure at Sasol Mining, Philip introduced non-flameproof diesel transport. This project was responsible for a large percentage of the productivity improvement that has been observed in the coal mining industry in South Africa during the past 7 years (with a direct cost saving amounting to at least ZAR 400 million per year). Philip was also responsible for the introduction of variable speed drives on underground conveyor systems in South Africa.
